The curtain came down on the 2025–2026 University Basketball Championship on Sunday evening, wrapping up two weeks of high-energy competition and spirited sportsmanship. Staged at the Qatar University Sports and Events Complex (A07) from September 7 to 21, the tournament was organized by the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation in cooperation with Qatar University and the Qatar Basketball Federation.

This year’s edition once again underscored the rapid growth of university sports in Qatar, delivering an exceptional standard of play that blended technical quality with the values of teamwork and fair competition.

In the men’s competition, Qatar University emerged as champions after an impressive campaign, with Doha University for Science and Technology taking second place and Hamad Bin Khalifa University finishing third.

The closing ceremony was marked by a festive spirit as H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Bin Saleh Al-Nuaimi, President of the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation, and Dr. Mohammad Shahin Al Kuwari, Vice President for Student Life and Services at Qatar University, handed the championship trophy and gold medals to the winning team. Dr. Angela Flowerday, Vice President of Doha University for Science and Technology, awarded the silver medals to the runners-up, while Ms. Wadha Al Saud, Sports and Recreation Activities Supervisor at HBKU Student Affairs, presented the bronze medals to the third-place finishers.

Individual honors went to Ayomids Alabi (Doha University for Science and Technology), who was named Best Player, and Ali El-Diasaty (Qatar University), who received the Top Scorer award after his standout displays throughout the tournament.

In the women’s bracket, Qatar University maintained its dominance, claiming first place, with Hamad Bin Khalifa University finishing as runners-up. The champions were crowned in the presence of H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Bin Saleh Al-Nuaimi, Dr. Mohammad Shahin Al Kuwari, and Ms. Wadha Al Saud.

As for the individual awards for the female students, Sharon Diagi from Hamad Bin Khalifa University won the Best Player award for her outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Sama Jasser received the Top Scorer award.
